Micro Camper Finishing Galley and Interior
After getting in sealed and painted, I started work on finishing the interior and the galley. During my build I got away from the original plan to keep it inexpensive, as most of my hobbies seem to get more expensive than originally planned, why should this one be any different. While looking for some parts at Habitat for Humanity, I came across a dorm sized fridge and a small micro wave at a very good price. They were survivors of a semi wreck, still in the boxes but dents and scratches. I got one of each for $75 total. Then I had to revise my galley plan to include them.
I was under a time crunch as I had plans for a maiden voyage with my daughter and her partner in about 10 days so I needed to get the basics in and get it campable. So here is what I did to complete it for the first trip.
Galley:
Build in space for the fridge and microwave. Added shelving around them. Build a sliding tray for the water container. Build a single swing out door. Did this for two reasons, 1. didn’t want to go to all the trouble for a door that swung up and 2. wanted to use the door for a folding shelve to give me more cooking space. Plus I was able to pick up the trailer door hinges at Habitat for $1 so that was the decision maker. Applied some paint here and there, installed 110v and 12v systems and the galley was ready to camp.
Exterior:
Finished trim on windows, front and rear doors, installed roof rack. Installed fender and added front and rear stabilizer jacks
Interior:
Raised the floor to provide under floor storage and to provide an air space for insulation. Put in 12v and 110v systems. An overhead shelf in the cabin front, 2 shelves for storage against the aft bulkhead, and room darkening shades for the windows. Installed felt material for room and overhead shelf.
So now I had it ready for its maiden voyage. In addition to the trailer I got a 10×10 shelter for a cover for the galley area, with an add-on tent to use for standing and changing clothes etc.
